hi summerfairy,

what particular hotel kayo naka booked?

hello, my friend booked us sa Hong kong Downtown backpackers hostel. Its in Chung King mansions. okay naman kasi yung pictures, sa hostelHK website ata sya nagbook. But then, I've read some really bad comments about that hostel. Panget ba talaga dun? But then, wala na yata kaming atrasan kasi nag down na sya at next week na ang alis namin.

Comments on the hostel please.

we all agreed on the hostel kasi nga for sleeping and storage for out bags lang naman yun. But may nabasa kasi ako na marami daw lasing in the area at night?

We are hikers and backpackers so we are used to minimal or no facilities at all. Two tears ago, nag Bohol kami. We brought our own tents and talked the manager into letting us pitch tents on the beach. Pumayag naman. Nagbayad lang kami ng Php200 per day for the use of their CR and shower. Grabe, and to think na yung beach is katabi ng Bohol Beach club!

But I'm concerned about the security in the place.

we did everything by ourselves. walang package or anything. we are not joining any tours. it's more fun exploring the city by yourself rather than getting bored on the tourist bus while waiting for the others. Another isisue is the time. In a package tour, you are under the control of the terrorist guide.  toothy1

hi SF, so sa Chungking pala kayo naka book  Sad  naku, sana walang problem ung rooms.  i myself have read some bad feedbacks sa Chungking eh.

i know what you wanted was cheaper accomodations, kaso, ang nakakatakot dyan is safety rin.  Sometimes, it's always not wise na tinitipid natin ang sarili natin.  There are also cheap accomodations to be found around Mongkok din kasi.  But if you do push with Chungking, I pray na sana safe yung nakuha nyong lugar.  Don't leave na lang anything valuable sa kwarto nyo, just to be safe.

By the way, balita ko, dami daw Indian/Arabo na tambay dun sa place na yun, so be prepared sa amoy. hehehehe

Peace.  thumbrt

yun nga eh, nakapag book na at lahat yung friend ko tapos tsaka lang namin nabasa yung mga negative comments about the place. tomorrow na alis namin. we've tried last week but ang hirap na talaga humanap ng place, booked na. esp that mid-autumn festival pa pala dun. recently lang namin nalaman, galing sana ng timing namin, yun nga lang medyo kabado kami sa place. magdadala na lang kami ng pepper sprays.  toothy1

when we get back, i'l definitely post some pics good or bad so that if bad, wala na sanang makaulit ng mistake namin.

thanks for the advice re: valuable items. we'll put that in mind talaga.

regarding the amoy, i have a cousin who's married to an arab, and medyo tolerable naman cya. hindi ko lang alam kung isang batalyon na cla!   violent  personally, i'm from davao, so isipin ko na lang durian cla!  laughing laughing laughing

nevertheless, we're all excitd na for our trip tomorrow. thank you for all your help guys.  salute salute

ahahahah!! amen sa sinabi nyo sir tony. hehehe

SF, have a nice trip, dont let a bad place to sleep ruin your time in HK.  Besides, you'd probably be outside most of the time. So enjoy!

Ingat!!!  And post some pix, whether good or bad ha!!!  thumbrt

hi ronella, di ko lang alam kung makakatulong to ha kasi di ako familiar sa nathan road, but giordano and bossini outlets are a dime a dozen sa HK, madami ka actually makikita sa paligid e. kahit sa mongkok, tsim sha tsui, nathan road, etc. meron parati.  as for the fake bags, you could try going to ladies market sa mongkok (?) madami dun, as well as the night market din ata.  for the baby clothes, meron din ang bossini and giordano na kids clothes e, so you could check them out as well.

maraming shopping outlets sa nathan road, and just a few minutes walk, pwede ka na rin magpunta sa harbour city, mall din sya with a lot of signature items.  sa paligid din nya, me mga shops din. believe me, HK is really a shoppers haven, kahit saang part ka mapunta, chances are, me makikita kang tindahan.

not sure kung applicable pa rin ito, since nung magpunta kami e sale month, but giordano sells 3 for 100 hkd na plain shirts before (not the dry tees ha)

as for bargaining tips, one thing i picked up from the people here at PHK, never agree on the amount given (ex. ladies market ha, hindi sa malls) always ask for a lower price (start with 50%) then let the bargaining continue until you are ok with it.

also, never bargain for a price and not buy, they hate that.  automatic kasi na once me agreement na kayo sa price, ilalagay na kaagad nila sa plastic ung item. so be careful, and only bargain if sure ka na sa bibilhin mo. if not sure, just look around, better if you can avoid touching the item na rin. Wink

if i may make a suggestion, why not visit citygate sa tungchung, andun ung mga famous outlets like, giordano, bossini (?), nike, esprit, etc. in one roof, so hindi ka na mahihirapan pa maglibot ng maglibot all over HK. hehehe

Hope this helps, and I hope na tama itong mga pinagsasabi ko dito.

Hi Niteowl,

Maraming salamat sa tips mo.
At least may idea na ako kung saan ako pupunta at paano ako makikipag-bargain.
Once a year lang kasi kami magshopping ng family ko para makatipid, so pinipili lang talaga namin ang pupuntahan namin.
I hope worth the money naman ang hongkong.

May isa pa po akong tanong - safe po ba sa bata ang street or hawker foods sa Hong kong?
Yung 2-year old baby ko po kasi hindi pa kumakain ng rice, so porridge lang sya or rice na may soup.

Sad  at wala din ako napansin na restaurant na tailored for kids talaga sa HK. there are a lot of restaurants sa paligid who do serve porridge, so i'm sure hindi ninyo magiging problema un.

just make sure na me english menu ung kakainan nyo para naiintindihan nyo kung ano ang inorder nyo. hehehe.

sulit tiyak ko ang pera nyo sa HK, i'm sure, gugustuhin nyo pa bumalik dun dahil marami pa kayo pwede puntahan. Smiley

don't mention it. just happy to share my experiences. Smiley

Hi Ronella, pwede kang pumunta sa Tung Chung Citygate (Tung Chung MTR station), maraming
outlets shops dun. Niteowl, what do you think???

Don't try hawkers food for your baby. Delikado.

I'm still in the Philippines but I'll be working in HK for a year. I was thinking of buying everything here kse baka mas mahal dyan pero I'm not sure about the company's dress code yet kya can't buy too much. What do you think? Smiley
