Back to 300 Film Review.

If you hate battles, bloodshed, nudity, gore, and especially if you are of Persian ancestry, I urge you to stay away from the movie.

If you loved the movies Gladiator and Troy and you are willing to walk into the theatre with unclouded eyes, then by all means buy that ticket, sit really tight and enjoy the visually stunning film.

The story is about an ancient battle that took place at the narrow cliffs of Thermopylae (referred to as the "Hot Gates") where King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans warrior battled in glory and honour. They build a wall to halt the Persians' advance.

Their enemy is an invading army led by the self-proclaimed “King of Kings”, Xerxes.
His army is as numerous as it is insurmountable.

It is story telling of enormous captivity, trilling and emotional.
This film is highly graphic with its amount of details in every scene.

CGI aside, notice the colours that were used to paint every mood.
Admire the camera angles that dynamically transform the idea on screen.
Do grasp tightly for the tension is compelling.

Think towards an idea of mythology, fantasy, the ethos of graphic novels being skillfully crafted by its makers. This film is not for the weak but for the brave.

PINOY TRIVIA

Did you know that our Gregorio del Pilar has been fittingly compared by many contemporary writers to that of Leonidas and his Spartans at Thermopylae?

Instead of Leonidas’ 300, Goyong, the 24 year-old "boy general" led a 60-man Filipino rearguard in the Battle of Tirad Pass against the "Texas Regiment", the 33rd Infantry Regiment of the United States Volunteers. The awesome story has been told and retold with epic grandeur, how Del Pilar stood with his valiant soldiers on the steep and solitary mountain Pass of Tirad, steadfast to repel the invader, or fight and die like honorable men.

The Traitors

The 300 has Ephialtes, a hunchbacked Spartan who told the Persian general Hydarnes about a secret goat path that the Persians could use to surround the 300.

In Goyong’s version ... with the aide of a spy, Jose Galut, he revealed a secret approach to the Americans. This caused the defeat of the troops of Gregorio del Pilar.

I bought my DVD from Mike, the vendor in front of Jollibee Central.  Sorry can't wait to watch it.  hiding

Thanks for that great review Limahong. Last week ko pa binalak manood nito
kaya lang walang time (at pera  Embarrassed  )

I saw a movie download link in one site I came across yesterday, rapishare yung link,
but haven't tried yet.

Anyway, that pinoy trivia was cool. I've been inspired with Goyong's story, back in
my elementary days. The story of that young general is somewhat similar to betrayal
happened in Mel Gibson's  Braveheart.
