Macrotech struggles against First Technology but eventually won

Tsing Yi Sports Centre, Tsing Yi (HK) August 18, 2007 - It’s a good thing Macrotech team wasn’t playing RFC on Saturday night.

The Macrotech had trouble playing against the five (5) players of First Technology headed by coach “Pat” Lars Ortega. The First Technology won the first quarter 20-14 and second quarters 39-27. They even led as much as 18 points (36-18) with 3 minutes remaining in the first half.

“They didn’t play very well in the first half and we took advantage of it”. Coach Pat “Lars” Ortega said. “We only have 5 players including myself, what else can you expect in the end game. But they panic when they can’t get the lead”. Coach Pat “Lars” added.

Indeed, the Macrotech’s inconsistent play cropped up again. They don’t bother to double team coach Pat Lars early, not until late in the game which paid dividend to the Macrotech team.

With his team facing elimination to the Finals, Erwin Concha showed why he is the best player of the game. He scored a total of 27 points, 17 from the second half to will his team to a 95-85 victory.

Rookie guard JR Peralta added 18 points, Arnel Usero with 14 points, Saldy Baraquiel with 12 points, 11 points for Saiun Sacdalan, Arnel Lontoc have 9 points, and 2 points each for Allen Umali and Jeff Roquel.

In the middle of the third quarter, the lead was cut down to 10 points 53-43. Without a substitute player, fatigue plays a big role for the First Technology team, with Coach Pat Lars gasping for air, they have difficulty bringing the ball back to the mid court. And by the end of the third quarter First Technology had relinquished their lead and Macrotech for the first time was up by 2 points 63-61.

Mac Narciso scored a high of 42 points and Senio Mejorada contributed 26 points, Eric Galang with 12 points and Derick Wong with 5 points for First Technology team who was determined to win but fell short in the end game.

Assistant coach Jimmy G. come in to the game with 5 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter a sign of victory for the Macrotech team. But he was pulled out 35 seconds after, when Mac Narciso scored two consecutive lay up that cut down the lead to 6 points. JR Peralta stabilized the point position and the lead was up by 10 points with 2 minutes remaining. Exodus of second stringers from the bench was brought in with under a minute to go in regulation.

Macrotech now stands at (8-3) while First Technology fall deeper (1-9).

A must win game by Macrotech on Wednesday 22/08/07 against the RFC team to force a tie on the standing and a possible knockout game. But if RFC win this game, then they automatically clinch the Finals berth.
