Did you know that 3 of Henry Sy's SMs are included in world's 10 largest shopping malls?

Ten shopping malls rank as the world's largest, based on the amount of "Gross Leasable Area"--the number of square feet the property has for revenue-generating activities like retail, dining and amusements. Asia is home to eight of the world's 10 largest malls, six of which were built in the last three years. Rankings are based on statistics from Eastern Connecticut State University, which compiles data from mall management companies.

Dubai Mall is equivalent to 50 football fields or almost 3 times the size of Mall of Asia... Wahhh... cguro kahit maghapon ay d natin to kayang ikutin..

Going back to the Top 10 above, what conclusion could we made then?

a) Filipinos (or shall I say Asians) are shopping-addict <perhaps window shopping only> laughing..sinong may sabi na naghihirap ang pinas angry4
b) Henry Sy is the 'Shopping Mall King of Asia' (if not in the whole world) salute
c) Pwede rin na kaya maraming shopping malls sa pinas ay kasi mura lang ang presyo ng lupa laughing
d) Pwede rin maraming pinoy ang walang air-con sa bahay laughing

salute.. Proud to be a Pinoy (ironically, Henry Sy came from China) laughing

Did you know that the highest standing building in the world is no longer Taipei 101?

"On July 21, 2007, construction reached 1,680 feet on the 141st floor of the Burj Dubai tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, making it the largest building in the world. The skyscraper is now 13 feet above the former record holder, Taipei 101 in Taiwan, which is 1,667 feet above the ground.

Burj Dubai is the tallest building now, and according to the official site, it's nowhere near finished. The final height and number of stories are a secret."---extracted from an internet article

And did you know that the tallest building in the Phils. is PBCOM Tower in Ayala, Makati?

"PBCOM Tower is the tallest building in the Philippines and the seventy-ninth tallest building in the world (www.Wikipedia.com). It has a height of 259 meters, soaring at 52 storeys high plus an 8-level radio tower. The building is the home of the Philippine Bank of Communications, or PBCom, one of the oldest Philippine banks."

Building heights and rankings are often disputed, i.e., PBCOM ranked 93rd tallest building in the world (www.infoplease.com)

At left is Burj Dubai (rumored to reach 800m when completed next year)..the tallest building in the world & at right is PBCom Tower, the current tallest bldg. in the Phils. at 259m.>>> not bad salute

Did you know that... Skycity is soon to be the highest building in the Phils. <barring any further legal dispute>?

"A decision of the Court of Appeals could clear the way to resumption of construction of Skycity, which would be Philippines' tallest building. The court denied the petition by the Greenhills East Association, which was holding up construction. Excavation work started in year 2000 at the corner of Ortigas and Epifanio de los Santos Avenues. The height has been revised to 77 stories from the original 88. Skycity is expected to be completed in 2010 to 2012."

Did you know that there is a record for longest nipple hair? Check it out ..

"It might not be the type of world record you would take home to your mother, but it is a world record and it was set in London. It's the length of a black hair on Tyler Ing's right nipple.

It's 8.89 centimetres (3.5 inches) long -- long enough to make the 2006 Guinness Book of Records as the longest nipple hair on Earth. "There are a few contenders on me, but that's the longest one," said Ing, 20, a University of Western Ontario engineering student. Ing got the idea to apply after constant hassling from friends and the encouragement of his girlfriend. "After you've been made fun of enough in the hockey change room, you might as well put it in Guinness," he said. The patches of hair growing on his nipples have never been trimmed or plucked. And he doesn't do anything special to protect the record holder. Ing applied to Guinness in March 2004, when the hair was officially measured. The hair is compared in the 2006 edition of Guinness with other notables such as the world's longest armpit hair. Ing's record isn't all that weird when compared with others, says Pat Ort, a manager at the Guinness World Record Museum in Niagara Falls. "You look through the book and you see things you wouldn't imagine people would do to break a record." Ing said his "parents looked at me real weird for a few minutes. "Now they're proud. My mom shows the book to all her friends." "

Did you know that... evil2

In Japan, the Internet café has become a substitute for home. A survey of Japan's ministry of health indicated that the number of people who sleeps over at 24-hour Internet cafes for having no home or job total 5,400 nationwide, the Kyodo News reported. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's findings disclosed on Tuesday reveals what could be a widening of the rich-poor gap in Asia's richest country.

Inmates at an Indian prison are refusing to leave because the food is so good. Filled at more than twice its capacity, the Parappana Agrahara prison in Bangalore is serving food prepared by ISKCON, or the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, a Hindu evangelist organization. Small-time crooks are refusing to apply for bail, swelling the ranks of the prison to 4,700. Also, juvenile offenders are lying to the police about their age to get into the adult prison, according to the AFP.

Tired or don't have enough fare to go home in Manila, Philippines? No worries, as the Philippine government on Labor Day inaugurated a four-story, 700-bed "workers inn" where urban workers can stay for the night and have a bath for just usd 0. 55. "Gwapotel or Tulugan sa Bayan" (sleeping quarters for the masses), a dormitory-style bed-and-bath facility, jointly undertaken by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the National Power Corporation, provides transients with a room for 10 hours for usd 0. 55.   thumbrt

Did you know that...
Lopez Center Tower is soon to be the tallest building in the Phils.?

- Future headquarters of First Philippines Holdings
- This building is named after Manolo Lopez, the owner and developer of the Rockwell Center
- The Lopez Centre is currently about to start soon!
- The tower's current design dictates a height of 320m

ROCKWELL Land Corp. is set to pour some P10 billion into different property development and construction projects, including the shelved Lopez Tower, in the next five years. The company plans to allot P2B for the development of its new residential towers in Rockwell Center and the construction of a business process outsourcing (BPO) facility in Ortigas this year alone. Rockwell president Nestor Padilla said that the company has the money to fund its projects and can tap into a P2.5B facility being offered by two financial institutions should the need for additional funding arise. The construction of the Lopez Tower, which was shelved when the Asian financial crisis hit in 1997, may also push through this year. “That is a 60,000-square-meter gross leasable landmark tower that can house a 65-story building and I think the time is right for us to revisit it,” Padilla said, adding that the tower will complete Rockwell Center as a self-contained center, with residential, office, mall and school. “If we start the development of the Lopez Tower this year, it will take us four years to finish it,” Padilla noted

TriNoMa, Triangle North of Manila, one of Ayala Corporation's largest mall development in the Philippines, is an upscale shopping center located on the corner of North Avenue and Epifanio de los Santos Avenue in Quezon City, Philippines.
The mall grounds are situated at the "north triangle" formed by the intersection of North Avenue, Epifanio de los Santos Avenue and Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City. It is right across the street from another major Philippine mall, SM City North EDSA. Located on a 20 hectare parcel of land, the mall has a gross leasable area of 195,000 square meters, including the adjacent Landmark QC.
It is directly connected to Manila MRT's North Avenue MRT Station. It will be almost connected to the Yellow Line's proposed North Avenue LRT Station. Its next door buildings are the Manila MRT North Avenue Depot and EDSA Mass Transit Project. It will have an overpass connecting TriNoma to SM City North EDSA and it will be called TriNoMa-SM City North EDSA Overpass.
