16 Million HK Dollar Fireworks Marks 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong Handover
July 2, 2007

Last night at Victoria Harbour in Central, the biggest fireworks displayed to mark the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong handover to China. The display which lasted for about 36 minutes fired about 32,000 fireworks in the air, along with a light and music show called “Symphony of Lights” performed by the lights on Hong Kong’s famous skyscrapers along the harbour
More than 370,000 citizens and tourists crowded along the coast of Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong side and Kowloon side to view the splendid display. Unfortunately, we’re in Manila for a vacation so we were not able to see it.
You won’t believe but the government of Hong Kong spent 16 million dollars for the biggest fireworks alone ever displayed since 1997. I felt envy because they can afford to make a spectacular fireworks, and still have comfortable life. It is about 90 million pesos (at Php5.6 per 1HK$ rate at the time of writing), enough to feed some but not all of the hungry and oppressed people in Philippines.
