Pinoys in Hong Kong brace for a cold snap as mercury plummets to zero!

The Cold Weather Warning is now in force in the territory and Filipinos especially the domestic helpers who stay out on Sundays will be threatened with an intense cold snap due to polar vortex coming from North China.

As of now, it’s about -20 degrees in most many parts of China.

The Hong Kong Observatory forecast the temperature this coming Monday to be very cold especially in northern part of New Territories such as Sheung Shui and Tai Po. In Ta Kwu Ling near the border, temperature will drop to -1 degrees.

This intense cold surge will last for few days.

What to do when during cold weather (from Hong Kong Observatory)

1. People are advised to put on warm clothes and to avoid adverse health effects due to the cold weather. You must also ensure adequate indoor ventilation.
2. If you must go out, please avoid prolonged exposure to wintry winds.
3. If you know of elderly persons or persons with chronic medical conditions staying alone, please call or visit them occasionally to check if they need any assistance.
4 Make sure heaters are safe before use, and place them away from any combustibles. Do not light fires indoors as a means to keep warm.
5. Please ensure that there is plenty of fresh air in your room when you are using an old-type gas water heater.
