Coronavirus: OFWs including in Hong Kong affected by COVID-19 pandemic to receive ₱10,000 (US$200) DOLE aid

Department of Labor and Employment said that a one-time financial assistance of 10 thousand pesos (P10,000) equivalent to US$200will be given to landbased and seabased overseas Filipino workers whose employments were greatly affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

According to Secretary Silvestre Bello III, “The Department of Labor and Employment has already prepared the guidelines of the DOLE-AKAP assistance program for OFWs to ensure its effective and streamlined implementation.”

DOLE-AKAP (Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong) will cover  regular/documented OFWs as defined in the 2016 Revised Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Rules and Regulations.

“Regular or documented OFWs are those who possess a valid passport and appropriate visa or permit to stay and work in the receiving country; and whose contract of employment has been processed by the POEA or the POLO,” Bello said.

Coronavirus: Hong Kong University estimated 250,000 Mainlanders will be infected

The number of corona virus cases in Hong Kong has soared dramatically. The Hong Kong University School of Public Health and the News and Media Research Centre held a workshop on the corona virus infectious disease yesterday. The director of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division of the University of Hong Kong School of Public Health, Yi Guan, estimated that the actual number of infected people in the Mainland may exceed 230,000.

According to Sing Tao Daily report,  he expected that the number of infections in Hong Kong alone would be higher than the number of confirmed cases, but believed that the current testing was sufficient, saying that it was not possible to test all returnees from overseas.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Advisory – Hong Kong Department of Health

Members of the public are strongly urged to avoid non-essential travel outside Hong Kong.

COVID-19 refers to the cluster of viral pneumonia cases occurring in Wuhan, Hubei Province, since December 2019. According to investigation by the Mainland health authorities, a novel coronavirus is found to be the causative agent.

 

Members of the public are strongly urged to avoid non-essential travel outside Hong Kong.

All people entering Hong Kong from the Mainland will be required to undergo compulsory quarantine upon their arrival.

Health quarantine arrangements on inbound travellers from overseas:

1. Hong Kong residents arriving in Hong Kong who have been to the following countries or areas in the past 14 days will have to stay in a quarantine centre for quarantine

a) Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do in Korea

b) Iran

c) Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and Veneto regions in Italy

2. Hong Kong residents arriving in Hong Kong who have been to any other overseas countries or areas in the past 14 days will be subject to compulsory quarantine
